Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven was sentenced to 22 years and three months in prison for her statements against the attacks on Afrin and for her activities as part of the Democratic Society Congress. She has been sent to Elazığ (Xerpet) prison on 23 of December.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) organized an action in front of the square in Fatih, Aksaray Metro station to protest against the arrest of Leyla Güven.
However, the police blockaded the square and tried to stop the protestors making their voices heard.
Despite the blockade, hundreds of people including DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz, Peoples Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Spokesperson İdil Uğurlu, and People’s Democracy Party (HDP) MP Musa Piroğlu were all present at Aksaray.
Many people were then attacked by the police and HDP members were detained including HDP İstanbul Co-Chairs Elif Bulut and Erdal Avcı.
HDP MP Musa Piroğlu was pushed out of his wheelchair by the police during the protests.
Later, HDP members made a press statement in front of the Istanbul HDP building. They protested against the arrest warrant against Leyla Güven.
“We are proud of Leyla Güven”, they said.
