Since Kurdistan Worker’s Party leader Abdullah Öcalan’s imprisonment in Imrali Island, campaigns demanding his freedom have grown all over the world. One of the most recent is the Freedom for Öcalan Arab Initiative, which was established on the 22nd anniversary of Öcalan’s detainment.
The initiative continuously demands freedom for the Kurdish people’s leader and is also working on spreading Öcalan’s ideas in the Arab world.
Speaking to the Hawar News Agency, Lebanese journalist Xelil El-Qadi said the aim of the initiative is to support the struggle for democracy.
“Our initiative aims to raise a voice against Turkey, which has been keeping Öcalan behind bars for years”, he said. Öcalan’s ideas are also inspiring for Arab people, he added.
The initiative is in contact with other Kurdish organisations in an effort to build close relations and speak as one voice in support of Öcalan’s freedom.
