The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) has made a written statement on the health condition of imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan. The KCK called on Kurdish people and democratic forces to demand information about Öcalan.
The statement noted that the claims were serious and needed to be clarified immediately. Turkey and other international organisations have some responsibility for the health of Öcalan, said the KCK.
“The Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the European Council will also be responsible in the event of a decline in Öcalan’s health”, said the KCK, adding, “Any negative messages about Rêber [leader] Öcalan’s health and life should be considered political”.
The KCK also argued for meetings to be allowed in İmralı Prison. “Seeking clarity by meeting Öcalan in order to confirm his health and security is an historical responsibility. Our people and all democratic forces should stand up and fight to obtain crucial information about Leader Öcalan’s health. Any statement can be convincing when it comes to Leader Öcalan”.
The KCK added that the ongoing isolation was an assault against Öcalan. “The claims regarding İmralı have once again indicated that the ‘It is time to achieve freedom’ campaign has been launched on time. The 2021 Newroz Festival fire should be lit in the name of Öcalan… his freedom and the freedom of the Kurdish people are already interwined with each other”.
Lastly, the KCK called for immediate clarification on the health and security of Öcalan.
