“Fascism will definitely be overthrown in Turkey,” said the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) in a statement released on Thurday, reflecting on the recent presidential and parliamentary elections held in Turkey on 14 May.
The KCK emphasised the significance of the Turkish elections, considering them crucial for the Kurdish people and the broader Turkish society “due to the danger” that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its far-right ally the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) “pose to the Kurdish people as well as to the society and peoples of Turkey as a whole.”
The KCK applauded the Kurdish people for demonstrating “a strong stance against AKP-MHP fascism in the May 14 elections and has thus taught a historical lesson to the anti-Kurdish, genocidal, colonialist and fascist AKP-MHP,” and especially recognised the active participation of women in the electoral process, stating, “Our people have not given way to fascism in any way and have turned Kurdistan into the centre of the legitimate struggle for democracy.”
The statement highlighted the repression faced by Kurds, with the KCK expressing concerns about the Turkish government’s attempts to suppress democratic will through oppression and violence. “The fascist AKP-MHP government aimed to prevent the expression of the will of all democratic segments of society, especially the Kurdish people, by putting all state means and all conceivable methods of force, oppression, and violence into action.”
The KCK also raised concerns about election fraud and tampering, claiming, “The results of the elections are absolutely not like they have been published. It has been clearly revealed that hundreds of thousands of votes in Kurdistan were invalidated and many more were assigned to other parties by tampering with the lists.”
“Fascism will definitely be overthrown in Turkey and Turkey will be democratised,” the statement concluded, expressing confidence in democratisation of Turkey.
