Following the completion of his sentence, İdris Baluken, who previously served as the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) group deputy chairman and MP of Diyarbakır (Amed), was freed from prison on Wednesday.
Baluken was arrested on 4 November 2016 when he was serving as HDP’s deputy group leader and was later convicted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, resulting in a 9-year, 2-month sentence.
After a hearing held on 30 January 2017, Baluken was released from prison. However, he was re-arrested on 21 February 2017 after the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office objected to his release.
Baluken has now been freed from Sincan Prison after serving his full sentence of 6 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
