Following Turkey’s air-and-ground campaign launched on April 23 in northern Iraq, clashes between the Turkish armed forces and Kurdish fighters continue.
Female Kurdish fighters of the Free Women’s Units (YJA-STAR) are effective in the frontlines of the clashes, which has been deemed by many observers as one of the largest battles between the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that has been going on for over four decades.
Şinda Botan, a Kurdish fighter from YJA-STAR shared her evaluations of the ongoing conflict in northern Iraq with ANF.
“Any operation targeting the guerilla is an attack against the Kurdish people. People should see that and Kurdish youth should rise against these operations,” Botan said.
Defining the stance of the Kurdish fighters as a “resistance”, Botan emphasised the dedicated spirit of the Kurdish fighters on waging “revolutionary war of the peoples”.
“That is why we will show a revolutionary stance against this operation of the enemy. Our stance will be the right stance in line with the stance of our leadership. We are determined to continue the revolutionary struggle of the peoples and to be victorious in this struggle.” she said.
The Kurdish fighter shared the following messages from the battle field: “We have the responsbility of ensuring the
physical freedom of our leadership (Abdullah Öcalan). This operation will be defeated as well. The victory shall always be of the Kurdish people. We are ambitious in this regard, we will continue this war until our last one falls. We will march on the path of resistance never to betray our struggle.”
