The annual Kurdish Cultural Week commenced on Thursday in the Belgian capital of Brussels, bringing together a diverse array of events aimed at promoting Kurdish culture and highlighting the national aspirations of the Kurdish people.
Organised by the Brussels-based Kurdish Institute and the Belgium Kurdish Society Centre (NAV-BEL), this year’s Cultural Week marks its seventh edition. The event, scheduled from 24 to 27 August, will feature collaborations with Assyrian, Armenian, Yazidi, and Chaldean organisations.
Across various locations in Brussels, attendees will be treated to a rich tapestry of Kurdish music, cuisine, folklore, and cinema. The lineup includes screenings of Kurdish films, showcasing the artistic and cinematic achievements of the Kurdish community.
The event was inaugurated on Wednesday with a rally and a reception that unveiled the program and activities for the forthcoming days.
Throughout the week, visitors can look forward to a series of diverse events, including concerts by Kurdish artists, fashion shows, culinary presentations of Kurdish dishes, children’s activities, seminars, theatrical performances, and film screenings.
Among the featured Kurdish films in the program are Dema Dirîreşkan (Blackberry Season) and Nameyên Ji Şengal (Letters from Shengal) both scheduled for screening on 25 August.
As a unique addition, a symbolic Kurdish village will be constructed at Brussels’ Spanish Square, offering attendees a glimpse into the daily life and architecture of a traditional Kurdish village.
