As tensions continue in Sinjar, North East Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan, Kurdish artists have commented on the increase in attacks against the Kurdish people and the importance of Kurdish national unity.
After the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) deployed its forces to Zinî Wertê, Garê and Metina, the increasing tensions over the agreement signed between Iraqi government, and the KDP’s recent moves on Sinjar concerns of Kurdish people have increased.
Also, Turkey’s build up and attacks on Ain Issa following its attacks against Afrin, Grê Spi and Serêkanîyê.
Despite of all these attacks and threats against the Kurds, the KDP ignores all appeals for Kurdish national unity.
According to İdris Sayığan’s report published on Mesopotamia Agency, Kurdish artists have made statements on the importance of national unity.
The weakest point: national unity
Kurdish artist Xelîl Xemgîn said they are making efforts to contribute to national unity by establishing the Kurdistan Artists Platform at this time when operations are being carried out against Grê Spi and Serêkanîyê.
Stating that they have made the observation that the weakest point for the Kurds was the absence of national unity and because of this, Xemgîn said that it was possible for external enemies to play games and make interventions so Kurds could not overcome their internal issues. Kurds should achieve the common goal of national unity.
A shame of a hundred years
Xemgin stated that Kurdish politics was multi faceted and had been disjointed and seperated for a hundred years. He said, “That is an embarrassing state for Kurdish people. All Kurdish parties and organisations determine their strategies and ideologies, however, they don’t seem to be able to organise those on the basis of Kurdish shared interests or national unity. The principle of acting as a people does not seem to exist. This is our most significant problem. As famous names, not as persons, we, the artists, have performed efforts for national unity. We have met with several parties. If national unity is realised, if Kurdish politics can achieve it, our problems will be solved and attacks will be stopped. The Kurdish people would be protected and our achievements that have been gained due to an intense sacrifice will be preserved.”
The last chance of the century
Calling on all Kurdish parties and organisations, Xemgîn said, “This is the last chance we have in the 21st century. If we lose our achievements in this century, we will suffer for more than another one hundred years.
Maybe we will remain only as a name. Politics has a responsibility for this. Those, who are in cooperation with the Turkish state, who are planning dirty scenarios with Turkey against their own people, should be aware of the fact that history will never forgive them.
We watch the incidents occurring in Iraqi Kurdistan. The people have risen, people are on the streets. Kurdish politics must come together with no preconditions. We should also work to stop those who work for the enemy and bring them back to working for the Kurds. This is the scientific and rational approach to politics that is required.
Kurdish people and Kurdish politics should also be careful against provocations. Kurdish media should be very careful of its language.
We should focus on making parties come closer to each other and solving the problems. Politics is a mechanism to solve our issues, not for deepining the problems. I call all sides to unite for Kurdish national unity.”
Diyar: Ideas of Abdullah Öcalan are spreading in Middle East
Another Kurdish artist, Dîyar said that Kurds ,with the struggle they have carried out, have become a power that has determined the direction of politics in the Middle East and highlighted that the hegemonic powers could not make a plan without considering the Kurds anymore.
Stating that a crisis of Capitalist Modernity and nation states have taken place in the Middle East, Diyar said that nation states, which are not appropiate for the Middle East, only been able to keep their presence through genocide. Despite this, Diyar said, the ideas of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan’s were increasingly spreading.
It is time to get liberate
Stating that the Kurds would not live under any single power’s sovereignty, Diyar continued, “We will win this century with the paradigm of Democratic Modernity. Kurds have walked on to the stage of history now. The Middle East is being redesignated. Maybe Kurds will be the most fortunate ones. Kurds may gain significant achievements. But deficiencies and dangers also exist. Kurds are the only ones who have a political paradigm. They are also the ones who know what to do and to ready to pay the price with their lives. They can live together with other people. They can meet needs of all people such as in education, health care and law under the philosophy of Democratic Modernity and in accordane with the mindset and culture of the Middle East.We can break our chains and liberalise.”
Regarding the issue of Kurdish national unity, Diyar said that national unity was a wound of the Kurds but also a dream and called for unified actions in all four parts of Kurdistan.
