A used shell that may have contained chemical agent was recovered in a tunnel 10 July, on the hills of Amedi, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), according to a report by Fırat News Agency (ANF).
The Kurdish fighter who recovered the shell, told in a video recording where she was, and expressed her opinion that the shell was part of the chemical warfare conducted by Turkish troops.
She was heard saying:
“Today is 11th of July, 2022. This shell before you is a remnant of the bombardment and chemical attack of the enemy targeting the the war tunnel of Martyr Pirdogan on the 10th of July (…) There is no writing on the shell. The dust seems to be the residue of the content (…) The enemy bombarded Martyr Pirdogan war tunnel three times between 5:30 AM and 7 AM, and hit the tunnel with gas four times.”
Intense clashes have been going on between Turkish forces and Kurdish fighters affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) particularly in Zap and Avasin regions of KRI since mid April when Turkish forces launched a campaign in the region with war planes, armed drones, helicopters and large numbers of troops.
Kurdish fighters allege that chemical weapons have regularly been used by Turkish forces in their attacks.
