The co-chair of the Kurdish National Congress (KNC), Zeynep Murad, issued a written statement on Turkey’s ongoing campaign targeting Zap, Metina and Avashin regions in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, located in northern Iraq.
Murad has been in political contact with several parties and non-governmental organisations with regard to Kurdish national unity. “We believe that with a national resistance, along with the support of friends and freedom defenders, we will defeat these attacks and attempts of invasion.”
Co-Chair Murad also criticised the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) attitude towards attempts to achieve national unity.
”We still have not even been able to meet with the representatives of the KDP. We have received no positive or negative messages to our calls. They should explain why they did not respond our requests, our door is always open to all parties and organisations,” she said.
”It is necessary to stand united against the Turkish offensive in every possible way. Kurdish people need national unity now more than ever. Problems can be solved through dialogue. Due to the lack of unity and solidarity, the defence front in Kurdistan weakens.”
Murad said that the KNC had tried to make contact with all Kurdish political parties, parliamentary factions, organisations, intellectuals, media outlets and women’s organisations throughout Kurdistan Region and Iraq in an attempt to organise all parties to take a joint stand with a spirit of national unity.
Sharing her call that all Kurdistan parties must take a stand against attacks and invasion, Murad called out to all Kurdish people. “I appeal especially to women and to the youth and everyone who demands freedom to put pressure on political parties to take a stance against a civil war and against Turkey’s invasion.”
