The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council co-presidency issued a statement on the birthday of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan.
“Happy ‘4 April’, the birthday of Rêber Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), to the Kurdish people, women and all peoples. We congratulate Rêber Apo’s birthday and remember his Mother Üveyş with gratitude and respect”, the KCK stated.
“The birthday of Rêber Apo is the birthday of Kurdish people, women and all the oppressed”, it added. It was emphasized in the statement that Öcalan represents not just a person but a collective identity embraced by all humanity, oppressed peoples, communities and women. “Rêber Apo has brought so much to the Kurdish people, the peoples of the Middle East, humanity, and women. We all owe too much to him. Only the cruel and those who lack a sense of justice can deny what Rêber Apo has brought to humanity”, the KCK stated.
“This day, 4 April, should be a day to raise voices against the isolation conditions that have been imposed on him. The freedom of Öcalan is deeply connected with the freedom of the Kurdish people, women and all the oppressed”, it added.
The KCK statement concluded: “In this context, everywhere, especially Amara, the village where Rêber Apo was born, should be turned into a place to fight for the physical freedom of Rêber Apo and to celebrate his birthday. We say that 2021 should be the year of liberating Rêber Apo and Kurdistan, meeting with Rêber Apo in Amed Newroz Square, and we repeat our promise about this”.
