The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) co-presidency has published a written statement for the recent Newroz celebration on 21 March.
The KCK pointed out in the statement that the Kurdish people “strongly embraced” Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, who has been jailed on a prison island in Turkey for over 22 years.
“We believe that our people have shown that they are ready for any struggle to support leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan]”, said the KCK.
‘Newroz was majestic in the four parts of Kurdistan’
Describing the Newroz 2021 celebration events held across Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran and many other countries around the world as “majestic”, the KCK said, “Newroz was celebrated in the four parts of Kurdistan and abroad in a majestic way that was worthy of its history. Newroz has boosted the morale of our people while striking fear in the hearts of the enemies of Kurds and democracy”.
Sharing their greetings and appreciations with all the people who joined the Newroz events, the KCK also pointed out that “Newroz 2021 was a part of the ‘End the isolation, fascism, occupation; time to ensure freedom’ campaign, and it represents the highest level of this campaign up until today”.
‘Kurdish people have decided to live freely’
2021 shall be the year to “ensure the realisation of this campaign”, said the KCK. The statement included the following remarks: “Newroz 2021 showed that our people have become the people of Newroz, people of resistance. Kurdish people decided to live freely with their own culture, own language, and own identity in their homelands. They have shown with their recent stance once more that they want to achieve this within the framework of a democratic nation and peoples’ fellowship in compliance with the spirit of the original Newroz, 2,633 years ago. Embracing the Peoples’ Democratic Party [HDP] in Newroz is the most definitive expression of this mentality”.
‘New methods’ of struggle
The KCK also noted the slogans that were chanted during the Newroz 2021 celebrations. “Our people expressed their demand to be informed of leader Apo’s well-being and safety”, the KCK said.
The KCK shared the following message regarding concerns over Öcalan’s health: “We are expecting clear information on leader Apo’s health and safety. As soon as the situation is clear, we will issue a new statement. Our people, friends and all democratic forces should be ready for new methods and ways to struggle as soon as Öcalan’s health is confirmed”.
