The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) has issued a call for global solidarity on May Day, marking it as a day for unity against capitalist exploitation and for advancing socialism and democracy. “May 1st symbolises the struggle, unity, and solidarity of workers, labourers, and the oppressed against capitalist exploitation,” the KCK stated, emphasising the day’s deep roots in the labour movement’s fight for equality and freedom.
The KCK also commemorated the sacrifices made in the pursuit of these democratic ideals, declaring a continued commitment to the martyrs of the socialist struggle. “We reiterate once again that we will remain loyal to the martyrs and hold their memory alive by further evolving our struggle,” they explained.
Highlighting the Kurdish freedom movement as integral to the broader struggle for socialism, the KCK pointed to Abdullah Öcalan’s influence. They credit his philosophy with fostering a collective resistance across the Middle East. The KCK called for heightened efforts to secure Öcalan’s freedom, aiming to advance the democratic aspirations of the Kurdish people and their allies globally.
