In a broadcast on Guerrilla TV on Tuesday, People’s Defence Centre (HSM) Headquarters Commander Murat Karayılan celebrated Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday and said that 4 April also marks the birth of a new idea and philosophy.
Karayılan stated that the birth on 4 April started a new process for all Kurds in terms of ideas, thoughts, mobility and struggle, and explained that Öcalan emerged on the stage of history with a new paradigm by combining history and current realities from the depths of Mesopotamian culture and history, the culture of the peoples.
The HSM commander argued that the PKK leader’s paradigm offers a new framework for a free and democratic society, a women’s revolution as well as an ecological revolution, adding, “He shaped the Kurdish women and the Kurdish people as a power and will in Kürdistan. He offered a new option with his democratic modernity paradigm against capitalist modernity, presenting a new remedy for all peoples.”
Karayılan also recalled the obstacles faced by the Kurdish people during the annual marches to the village of Ömerli (Amara) in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa (Riha), where Öcalan was born, and commemorated Mustafa Dağ and Mahsum Karaoğlan, who lost their lives during the celebration march on 4 April 2009.

Dağ and Karaoğlan, students of the Department of Mathematics at Dicle University, were killed in 2009 when police and soldiers used tear gas canisters against tens of thousands participating in the march.
