Dilek Doğan was shot during a police raid on her house in the Küçükarmutlu district of İstanbul on 18 October 2015, and lost her life a week later in an intensive care unit.
Doğan’s house was raided by police while her family was home. As policemen searched the house, special operations police officer Yüksel Moğultay shot 25-year-old Doğan at the entrance after she insisted that officers put on galoshes to avoid dirtying the floor. The footage of the incident, taken by police camera, was released on the internet.
Police officer Yüksel Moğultay (55) was sentenced to 26 years and six months in prison on the charge of “willful murder due to negligence”. However, citing good conduct, the judiciary reduced the sentence to only six years and three months in prison.
