Journalists, politicians, relatives and friends gathered to commemorate the twenty-eighth anniversary of journalist Musa Anter’s death. They gathered along the street where Anter had been fatally shot.
Musa’s son, Dicle Anter, said that his father’s struggle for freedom continues through his followers.
Born in Mardin in 1920, Musa Anter completed his secondary and high school education in Adana. He went on to study law at İstanbul University.
Anter was a significant figure in Kurdish literature and journalism. He wrote for various magazines and newspapers and was the author of a Kurdish language dictionary. He was also an influential Kurdish poet and dramatist. Anter was imprisoned many times because of his political activities and writings.
He was murdered by Turkey’s Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit (JİTEM) on 20 September 1992.
