Mesopotamia News Agency reporters Zeynep Durgut and Azad Kaya, and JinNews reporters Rojda Aydın and Derya Ren were detained in Cizre, a district of Şırnak (Şirnex) when returning from a news report they were covering in Şırnak.
The police stopped the car of 4 journalists, pointed guns at them, and conducted a police check as reported by Mesopotamia News Agency.
It was reported that there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Zeynep Durgut issued by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in relation to the investigation about the news story that had reported about the two villagers, Osman Şiban and Servet Turgut, who were tortured and thrown from a helicopter by soldiers.
Zeynep Durgut was then detained by being handcuffed with her arms behind her back and taken to the Şırnak Provincial Security Directorate. The other 3 journalists, who were submitted to abuse and threats from police, were later released.
Zeynep Durgut is expected to be taken to Van(Wan) today.
4 other journalists were also arrested before
Other Mesopotamia Agency reporters Adnan Bilen and Cemil Uğur, alongside JinNews reporter Şehriban Abi and journalist Nazan Sala were arrested on the grounds that they had reported the story of Osman Şiban and Servet Turgut being detained and thrown from a military helicopter by soldiers on 11 September in Çatak district in the city of Van (Wan) in Turkey.
They were questioned about the content of their reports.
The journalists were then taken to court for formal charges by the prosecutor under accusations of “membership of a terrorist organisation”.
