As Turkey’s presidential runoff vote to be held on 28 May approaches, the Democratic Regions Party’s (DBP) jailed former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel sent a message from Sincan Women’s Closed Prison in Ankara.
Greetings with resistance and struggle!
We have said earlier that May 14 is not an end, but instead, a beginning. Despite certain shortcomings, I do believe that we have made a strong start. We have said ‘stop’ to fascism. And now, it is time to push it back! Nothing is over yet —our struggle continues without wavering. We should not forget: accepting the current situation and receding would be a betrayal to our peoples and to our women. Again, a passive stance amounts to surrendering to fascism. Resistance and struggle, however, will lead us to victory.
‘Dîsa em’ (We are here) with the Green Left, and let us deal a blow to fascism at the ballot box and reconstruct life to turn the hope of our peoples into reality!
