At an extraordinary meeting of Istanbul Municipal Council’s Transport Coordination Centre, a proposal for a 40% increase in electronic tickets and taxi, minibus and shuttle bus fares was agreed.
With this latest price increase, the municipality has raised fares twice since the beginning of 2022. The previous rise was 36%.
Living costs in Istanbul increased by 73 percernt
According to the latest data from the Istanbul Municipal Council’s Istanbul Planning Agency, the cost of living in Istanbul has increased by 73 percent in Istanbul, Turkey’s most populous city.

The increase in March in the prices of some basic commodities are as follows:
Granulated sugar: 27.10%
Sunflower oil: 39.95%
Rice: 4.43%
Red meat: 21.30%
Chicken: 28.54%
Diesel: 42.57%
Rents have also increased in the city in the last year due to the ongoing economic crisis.
The Turkish Institute of Statistics stated on Monday that the annual inflation in Turkey for 2021-2022 was 61.14%, the highest figure for the last 20 years.
