United State Central Command (CENTCOM) has captured Islamic State (ISIS) official Abu Halil al-Fad’ani during a helicopter raid in northern Syria on 23 September.
“The capture of ISIS officials like al-Fad’ani increases our ability to locate, target, and remove terrorists from the battlefield,” CENTCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Troy Garlock, said.
There were no civilian casualties during the operation.
US troops in Syria work in partnership with the local Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh (ISIS). Established in 2014, the joint mission is to dismantle ISIS’ networks and counter its global ambitions, prevent the terrorist organisation from reemerging and return peace to the region.
