The Kurdistan autonomous region in northern Iraq has set parliamentary elections for the 18 November after a one-year delay due to a conflict between two major Kurdish parties.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesman Dilshad Shahab on Sunday announced the election date, as decided by President Nechirvan Barzani, and called on regional authorities and the Independent High Elections Commission to begin preparations.
Last October the current parliament’s term was extended by a year due to a controversy between the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) over electoral constituency boundaries.
