The second international conference organised by the “Network Women Weaving the Future”, bringing together hundreds of women from dozens of countries and struggles started in Berlin on Saturday.
The conference, which this year embraces the motto “Our Revolution: Liberating Life”, began at Berlin Technical University with organisers sending greetings “to the political prisoners and who, in the name of freedom, continue their struggle in prisons.”
Nilüfer Koç, spokesperson for the Commission on Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), delivered a speech underlining the war against women under patriarchy.
“It’s the moment to say – you can’t rule us anymore,” Koç said, adding that the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom)” which has become the symbol of mass protests in Iran, is the culmination of 30 years of women’s struggles in the region.
“Women have shown if they’re organised, they can break the paramilitary forces of the 21st century,” Koç said.
Mariam Rawi, member of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA), focused on women’s struggles in the Taliban-ruled country during her speech.
“The most glorious uprisings of women are happening all over Afghanistan and many small groups have united to form one organisation, they are calling themselves ‘the spontaneous Afghan women’s uprising’ and we are hopeful that women from all over the country will join them,” Rawi said in relation to women-led resistance against the Islamist regime in the country.
The conference continues with speeches made in its first session entitled “World War III and Smashing the Armour of Immunity of the State and the Dominant Male.”
