The solidarity actions in Switzerland and Cyprus continue in order to amplify the voice of the ongoing hunger strikes for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
The hunger strike launched on 27 November 2020, by political prisoners in Turkey to protest against the isolation of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and the violations of human rights in Turkey’s prisons has reached its 69th day,
The international campaign “End the Isolation, Time to Ensure Freedom” continues with protests in Switzerland. Kurdish activists and their international friends in Geneva launched a vigil 26 January in front of the United Nations’s (UN) office in Geneva.
The vigil is launched for three days a week in front of the UN office in Geneva and continues in support of the hunger strikes. An activist from Bern Kurdish Council took over the action this week.
Protestors in Geneva demand the freedom for Öcalan and call for solidarity with their actions. “We will continue to protest until the prisoners demands are met,” they say.
Kurdish activists living in Cyprus launched solidarity hunger strikes in Teafilos Culture Association in Limasol in order to raise solidarity with the hunger striking prisoners in Turkey.
“The rotating strike, launched by 7 activists will last for 10 days,” said Kurdish activist Kamil Akalın.
