Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar issued a statement regarding the beating and detention of HDP MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu in Turkey. As Gergerlioğlu’s son stated that his father “was taken from the hospital like in a kidnapping scene”, it was revealed that Gergerlioğlu was taken to Sincan Prison by law enforcement officers.
Gergerlioğlu was stripped of his parliamentary seat and immunity after the decision of the Supreme Court and sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment. An arrest warrant was issued for him and he was detained from his home in Ankara on 2 April. He was reportedly assaulted during his detention and then taken to hospital due to chest and heart pains. He received an angiography and was in the intensive care unit for a while.
However, Gergerlioğlu’s son, Salih Gergerlioğlu, has announced on his Twitter account that his father was taken from the hospital.

“My father was taken from the hospital like in a kidnapping scene”, he wrote.
According to latest reports, Gergerlioğlu has been taken to Sincan Prison in Ankara. In their statement, the HDP co-chairs condemned the attitude of the state towards the HDP deputy, Mesopotamia News Agency reported.
“The incidents that our deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu faced last night showed how right it is for us to continue the struggle for human rights”, they said.
“Human rights and freedoms are severely violated in this country by the government. They use every opportunity for that. They detained our deputy as if in revenge and sent him to prison despite the doctor’s reports. Those ruling continue with their aggression against those who speak and defend human rights violations”.
“What has been done against him can be done against us too”, stated the HDP co-chairs. “We will continue to fight against all these violations. Justice will win, the truth will win”, they added.
