Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar have visited former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and former HDP deputy Abdullah Zeydan, both of whom have been imprisoned in Edirne F-type High Security Closed Prison.
Following the visit, Buldan and Sancar made a joint statement. They observed that they had visited their colleagues after a long period due to the pandemic and added that Demirtaş and Zeydan were in fine fettle.
“We have observed that Demirtaş and Zeydan were both quite healthy and highly motivated”, Buldan said. “Our friends have passed on their regards to everyone and to our supporters”.
Sancar noted that: “The HDP will continue its struggle and will continue to speak on behalf of its members, its administrators, its imprisoned colleagues, mayors, former deputies, party managers and friends, including Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. They are important to us”. Yüksekdağ was co-chair of the HDP from 2014 to 2017 until parliament revoked her parliamentary membership and the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled she was no longer a member of the HDP. She subsequently had been sentenced to one year in prison.
“Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ are our former co-chairs. Of course, all their views will be considered at all levels of the HDP”.
