The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Mithat Sancar spoke at the HDP’s party group meeting in Turkey’s parliament, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reported.
Sancar shared his views on the Kobani indictment that blames the HDP for the death of all individuals who lost their lives during 2014 Kobane protests.
A total of 108 HDP politicians have been tried in the case and have been held responsible for all of the deaths that occurred during the Kobani protests, which took place in Turkey, mainly in the Kurdish majority east and southeast, between 6-8 October 2014. In massive protests, people flooded onto the streets as a reaction to the attacks of ISIS on the besieged city of Kobani, where Kurdish forces showed historical resistance against ISIS.
”The indictment prepared in relation to the events that took place six years ago is not a legal case; it is a political revengeful case. It is a comprehensive liquidation operation. It is the new and perhaps the most important junction of the coup plan that has been going on for years. We are faced with a plot,” Sancar said.
“ISIS attacked Kobani a month following their genocidal attacks on Sinjar in 2014. ISIS has commited genocide against communities in the region, mainly the Kurds. People reacted against the attacks all over the world and also in Turkey. Democratic forces in Turkey demonstrated on the street in order to stop the brutal attacks and convince the government to allow humanitarian aid to pass through the border. It was also a time of the ongoing negotiations for a political solution. The Imralı talks, the dialogue between our party’s delegation and the government was ongoing.”
Regarding the stance of HDP politicans who have been tried in the Kobani Case, Sanjar said, ”Our dear friends, our comrades will make historical defences in the courts. They will refute all these allegations one by one; they will reveal the lies. The hearings will turn into a real moment of truth in the pursuit of justice.”
Sancar underlined that Kobani indictment is “based on lies”. “I want to share a few lies with the public once again,” Sancar added. “What did they say? HDP took the people on to the streets after the 7 June elections. The President himself said this. Lie. What’s the truth? The 6-8 October protests took place exactly 8 months before the 7 June elections.”
“The protests began with a tweet of the HDP, they say. The protests took place in early September, along with ISIS attacks on Kobani, not after our tweet. When did the deaths occur? The deaths occured when the police sprayed protesters with automatic rifles in the Varto district of Muş, after Erdoğan said, “Kobani will fall” in his speech in Antep on 7 October.”
Sancar also described “HDP’s tweet poured people into the streets, encouraged people to violence,” statement in the indictment as a “lie. “What is the truth? HDP’s tweet called for a peaceful protest. Millions all over the world protested against the barbarism of ISIS before HDP’s tweet. International institutions, especially the United Nations, made emergency calls one after another,” Sancar said.
Sancar also stated that the indictment prepared against them is full of ‘conspiracy scenarios’.
“Neither the closure case nor the Kobani indictment were prepared by the prosecutors, at least by fair and competent prosecutors. These were prepared with various conspiracy scenarios and handed over to the prosecutors. But there are also conscientious people in this country. There are millions who are fighting for justice. These millions will destroy this conspiracy,” the HDP co-chair said.
“They are trying to intimidate the HDP with persecution, pressure, arrests and never ending indictments. But all is in vain. Our insistance on our path will continue decisively.”
