Mithat Sancar, co-chair of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) attended the Berlin Congress of the Party of European Socialists on Saturday.
An HDP delegation, including the Foreign Affairs Committee co-spokesperson and MP for Batman in the Turkish Parliament and a former MEP for Germany, accompanied Sancar at a European Socialists’ summit.
Sancar gave a speech at the meeting and underlined that European socialists should strengthen cooperation and solidarity amongst themselves to counter the rise of the far right and autocratic regimes in Europe and beyond.
Sancar also shared his party’s views about the coming elections in Turkey with his European counterparts.
The HDP co-chair met several European socialist leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Meanwhile, Former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven was on Saturday elected the new President of the Party of European Socialists, an umbrella organisation which brings together 33 socialist-democratic parties from across the European continent.
