Pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) announced that it had cancelled events planned during the weekend to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its foundation, after a deadly mine blast in northern Turkey.
Turkey’s Interior Minister announced earlier on Saturday that the death toll in the mine explosion in Amasra district has increased to 40, while dozens of miners are still trapped underground.
“Following the mine disaster in Bartın, Amasra, we wish Allah’s mercy on those who lost their lives, offer our condolences to their families and our people. Due to this great and painful losses, our party’s celebrations for its 10th foundation anniversary is cancelled,” the HDP’s official account announced on Twitter.
