After the resignation of Turkey’s Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) issued a statement today calling for an early election.
The statement was made by the Central Executive Board (MYK) of the HDP. Regarding the resignation, it stated that this was a significant sign of the deepening crisis which Turkey is engulfed in.
In the face of people’s increasing reactions and protests over the current situation, the MYK stated that: “The resignation of the Treasury and Finance Minister and his grounds for doing so one again confirms that the crisis has spread into the palace and the regime, which is totally detached from the people, only cares for its own interests. Son-in-law Albayrak’s resignation and the the removal of the head of the Central Bank by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan indicates that the Presidency Governance System and the Palace regime does not have any instruments or political initiatives that can resolve this crisis. The failed regime and the government are collapsing as Turkey becomes mired in poverty, unemployment and hunger”.
The HDP also criticized state-backed media on the grounds that the resignation was not adequately covered in the mainstream media. The regime, which established itself with the assertion that it would successfully govern through the crisis, was itself in crisis, noted the HDP: “The source of the crisis and the one who is responsible for it is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan”. Referring to the removal of the head of the Central Bank, the HDP stated that all organizational autonomy of the state has now been removed. The HDP called on President Erdoğan and his cabinet to resign before the crisis of the regime and economy deepened even further.
The HDP called for an early election and declared that the HDP was ready for the forthcoming elections.
