Unidentified gunmen targeted Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) offices in Turkish capital Ankara’s conservative Altındağ district on Tuesday night.
The building was empty during the shooting, and the attack did not result in harm to any persons. Some windows were struck by bullets in the fifth-floor offices.
HDP’s several other offices and party headquarters have been targeted in similar armed attacks in recent years, including those where party officials suspect police involvement.
The most severe in recent memory was the shooting at the HDP provincial offices in western Izmir province in 2021, when a gunman targeting a high-level meeting ended up killing party volunteer Deniz Poyraz (38). He also attempted to set the building on fire but failed.
In the Izmir case, a man named Onur Gencer who reportedly received paramilitary training in Turkey-controlled Syria was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of the young woman.
