One person was killed and six wounded in a shooting attack at a police checkpoint outside the Çağlayan courthouse in Istanbul. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the attack was carried out by members of the far-left Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C).
Officials said the attackers, a woman and a man, opened fire in the courthouse square, causing deaths and injuries, including two police officers among the wounded. Security forces immediately responded, shooting dead the assailants at the scene.
The incident prompted a massive deployment of police and emergency medical teams and access points to the courthouse were closed to secure the area. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had opened a judicial investigation into the attack.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with gunfire disrupting the daily activities of the court. Despite the violence, court proceedings continued, with only lawyers allowed to enter and leave the building.
