Rêwar Melikşah is from the city of Îlam in Eastern (Rojhilatê) Kurdistan. He grew up in a patriotic family and said that he had known the Kurdish movement since childhood, as many of his family joined the ranks of the guerrillas.
“I had been familiar with the guerrilla since I was a child, and I was very influenced by my surroundings. But after the martyrdom of Şahan Melikşahî, I decided to join the ranks of freedom, to avenge all the martyrs of Kurdistan and so that their weapons are not left lying on the ground.” he said.
“Kurdistan is occupied. The invading states are using all means possible to attack the people of Kurdistan and the resistance. As Kurdistan freedom guerrillas, we respond to these attacks and prevent the enemy from expanding their areas of occupation.”
Another YRK guerilla, Cengawer Qendîl from Mahabad in Rojhilat, reflects upon joining the guerrilla:
“The PKK is a moral and humanitarian system and it advocates the freedom of peoples in all four parts of Kurdistan. Young people in Eastern Kurdistan should be aware of the special war waged by the Iranian state.
“Guerrilla is the only way to liberation. I call on all Kurdish youth to join the guerrilla for an honourable and free life,” he continued.
