The hunger strike launched by political prisoners in Turkey to protest against the prison isolation conditions of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and the violations of rights taking place in the country’s prisons has reached its 48th day.
Demonstrations and events supporting the cause and actions of the hunger strikers continue to be organised worldwide. The Young Women’s Union in Northern Syria and the Revolutionary Youth Movement are holding nine day vigils in Rojava to extend support to the prisoners on hunger strike. “The isolation imposed upon our leader Abdullah Öcalan must be lifted”, stated those present at the vigils. They also appealed for international solidarity. The vigils will continue until 19 January.
