On Monday 19th July, the 9th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron received a delegation of Representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) at the French Presidential residence, the Élysée Palace
A delegation composed of the Co-President of the Executive Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ehmed, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the AANES, Berivan Xalid and Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Civil Administration of Deir ez-Zor, Xesan El Yusif, was received at the Élysée Palace by President Macron.
During the meeting at the Elysée Palace, the French president insisted on “the need to continue working towards political stabilisation of northeastern Syria and inclusive governance,” the presidency said.
Macron in particular “Saluted the courage of the fighters in north-eastern Syria and the sacrifices endured by them and the local population in the fight” against the ISIS and gave assurances that Paris would “continue the fight against terrorism alongside the Syrian Democratic Forces”, according to the written statement issued by the Elysée Palace.
The French President also promised that France would “continue its humanitarian action” in the northeast, “where more than 100 million euros have already been committed by France since the recapture of Raqqa”, the former stronghold of the ISIS in 2017.
