North and East Syria’s Internal Security Forces official spokesperson Eli El Hesen announced that the first stage of the operation launched in Al Hol Camp in North East Syria had been completed. One hundred and twenty five members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, or Daesh), including high-ranking member Ebû Gerar, were captured during the operation.
Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesperson Gabriel Kino, People’s Protection Units (YPG) spokesperson Nuri Mehmud and Cizre Region Council Command member Ewinar Derîk were present during Eli El Hesen’s announcement.
Hesen stated that a significant effort had been made to ensure peace and stability for migrants in Al Hol Camp, where ISIS cells had been targeted. The operation, which took place with the participation of over five thousand SDF members, lasted for five days. Military equipment was also captured during the operation.
Hesen clarified that threats in the camp had not fully been contained, and they would continue until the international community found a solution to ensure that people from their countries who were still based at the camp returned. After issuing the statement, the forces participating in the operation received awards.
