Turkish armed forces have continued their ground military campaign in Zap, Metina and Avashin regions of Federal Region of Kurdistan since late April as Turkish fighter jets drop bombs over Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets, which have also been causing damage in civilian residential areas.
Fighters of the Free Women’s Units (YJA-Star), a female-only military wing of the PKK have been active in the counter-actions of the PKK against Turkish forces.
Two Kurdish fighters of YJA-Star shared their views with the ANF amid the ongoing clashes with Turkish armed forces in northern Iraq and stated that they will win in the Avashin region and ‘resist against the occupation’.
“The enemy has tried all kinds of methods of attack against us during their attacks for over one month. Yet, they will not be able to stop us. Despite their high technology, they are afraid of the strength of the guerilla fighters. Because we have the perseverance and political will,” said Adar Ararat, a YJA-Star fighter.
Ararat said that Kurdish female fighters are determined no to let Avashin “be occupied”.
“We will resist against the occupation till the end and we will turn Avashin into a graveyard for the occupiers,” she said.
Another female fighter Çiya Qamişlo said that YJA-Star “Will not leave the lands of Avashin.”
“Accepting the Mam Resho resistance as our measure we will carry on our resistance. We have the morale, we are excited, we are enthusiastic for resistance and we recognise no obstacles,” she said.
