A woman was killed in an armed attack in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Thursday afternoon.
According to Rojnews, the victim was identified as an activist from the autonomous north and east of Syria who had travelled to Iraq for a visit.
Eyewitnesses reported that two masked assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on the activist, firing eight shots. Witnesses also reported that the assailants used silencers during the attack.
Security sources have confirmed that the attack took place in Kirkuk’s Rahimawa neighbourhood. Following the attack, the two individuals managed to flee the scene, prompting an immediate manhunt by law enforcement officials.
The identity of the slain activist remains unconfirmed at this stage, as the authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The victim’s body has been taken to the Kirkuk Forensic Medicine Institute for further examination.
