European intellectuals and artists are raising their concerns about Turkey’s democratic future and calling on people to go to the polls in the days leading up to the 28 May presidential run-off election.
Alexandra Lort Phillips, a well-known British theatre artist and human rights activist, told Medya Haber TV’s Erem Kansoy that Europe is carefully watching Turkey’s second round of voting. “We just want to see people in Turkey exercising their democratic right and seeking change and progress. That would be wonderful, and it would inspire us all,” she said.
“What I feel about this election is that people now in Turkey have the opportunity to have their voices heard, that progress can be made towards true democracy in which the people’s voices in Turkey will be heard all across the spectrum. So, I really hope people will come out and take this opportunity and go to the voting booths.”
