Erdoğan’s need for a fake victory

Erdoğan’s need for a fake victory

Cafer Tar

“If the ones who rule are disconnected from people, they become liars and always need to create fake victories,” writes Cafer Tar for Yeni Ozgur Politika.

Our media has explained in great detail what happened in Garê; We all watched how the Erdogan-centered fascist block fell into a very embarrassing situation. Repeating them over again is not necessary and it doesn’t make much sense for the reader; However, the Garê attack and the developments after are so important that one cannot but write about any other topic.

Personally, would like to discuss the Garê incident from another angle. When the first Balkan War ended, the Ottoman state lost all of its lands in Europe. However right after the war, the countries Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, and Montenegro that had been fighting against the Ottoman Empire together removing it from European lands; started fighting each other as they could not share the lands gained from the Ottoman Empire.

Realising this situation, the Ottoman state quickly turned it into an ‘opportunity’. The Ottoman General Staff of the period ordered the “Bolayır Army” to enter Edirne. When the army reached Lüleburgaz on 19 July 1913, the Bulgarians, tired of war, had to leave the city and evacuate in one day. But then something very interesting happened and the Turkish army stopped its advance. The Ottomans knew that they were losing support and their power was waining, so in order to motivate their people domestically they felt the need to produce ‘fake victories’.

Instead of going to Edirne, one of the first capitals of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish Army waited in Lüleburgaz until July 21 since the problem was not solely re-gaining Edirne to Ottoman lands. It was which force will enter Edirne first, who would be the first, was the main issue.

Eventually, Enver Pasha was expected to come to the region, and the army under his command easily entered Edirne without a fight, since the city was already abandoned by the Bulgarians two days before, without any resistance and ‘claimed military victory’. Thus, Enver Pasha, who was the “hero of freedom” before, increased his power as the “hero of Edirne” both within the army and within the state.

While this ‘great military victory’ increased Enver’s power in the state and society, his rivals were weakened after that. They were angry with the Bulgarians for evacuating Edirne city so easily. (If the ones who rule are disconnected from people, they become liars and always need fake victories)

The fascist block in Turkey led by Erdogan is also losing credibility every day since it does not offer anything to the people other than these fake victories. No one is optimistic about the future of Turkey including their supporters.

The fascist block, whose votes are decreasing each day, is not taken seriously by any country now. Even though they are very willing to make concessions to the USA and the EU, all western capitals, especially the USA, are keeping their distance from the Ankara Government.

Unfortunately, the fascist block in Turkey not only threaten the future of the peoples of Turkey; the Erdogan regime has also threatens the welfare and stability of the whole of the Middle East and Europe. Two days ago, Metropoll Research published the results of the January survey that around 47.5% of the population want to leave Turkey!

This is a terrible thing for a country; We cannot think of this figure as just some simple statistic. This situation should radically change the approach of the Western capitals towards Ankara. Erdogan’s regime was tolerated and supported by especially Germany and other European countries for such a long time since it was stopping the immigration towards Europe from east and south.

However, since Turkey became a very unstable country because of the Erdogan regime it has difficulty to stop that migration anymore. And increasingly more of the people of Turkey are also going to be refugees in the near future.

If you think of a country of 83 million population, right next to the European Union, that becomes destabilised by a massive impoverishment and a civil war following that, you will realize the EU will not like that at all.

Speaking at the Rize 7th Ordinary Provincial Congress after the Garê attack, Erdoğan was not actually challenging the USA. On the contrary, he was reproaching, even begging, the USA for a fake victory. If you remember his exact words it was this: “You have to help Turkey!” (meaning……“You have to help me”).

We have seen many leaders knocking on the door of European countries and the USA sometimes for money, sometimes for EU membership, and similar things; but this is the first time we are witnessing it. So-called ‘domestic and national’ Erdogan was asking the USA for a fake victory that he could use against his rivals, he was angry and shouting since the USA would not help him for a fake victory.

AKP-MHP-Ergenekon fascist block has failed so badly in Garê; Nobody is fooled by Erdogan’s fake heroic tricks anymore, neither inside nor outside the country.

Probably, Erdogan’s end will be like Enver Pasha’s!
