Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar who have been on a sit-in vigil in front of the Urfa (Riha) Courthouse in Turkey with a demand for ‘justice’ regarding the killing of their three family members have been detained.
The police have detained Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who have been on a sit-in protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 17 days, they were detained immediately after the visit of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chairs, according to a Mesopotamia Agency report.
This is the second time in 17 days that the police intervened against the peaceful vigil of the Şenyaşar family.
The police blockaded Emine and Ferit Şenyaşar and confiscated their banners that had the word “justice” on them, before the DTK and DBP visited the family.
Right after the visitors left the protest area, Emine and Ferit Şenyaşar were detained.
Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar have reportedly been taken to the Urfa Provincial Police Headquarters.
Emine Şenyaşar’s husband, Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and two of their sons, Adil and Celal, had lost their lives as a result of an armed attack by the bodyguards and relatives of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP’s) Urfa deputy, İbrahim Halil Yıldız in 2018.
Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar have been struggling for justice ever since. As the controversial case goes on, Şenyaşar family launched a sit-in vigil 17 days ago and have been continuing their vigil despite the oppression and the arbitrary bans imposed on them.
