A workshop in Diyarbakır (Amed), Turkey on Saturday celebrated the Rojava Kurdish Unity and Common Stance Conference in Qamishli (Qamişlo), North and East Syria as a step toward Kurdish unity and democratic society. Organised by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, the Social Issues Workshop at the ÇandAmed Congress Centre drew hundreds, reflecting strong regional support for the Qamishli event.
Diyarbakır co-mayor Doğan Hatun wished success to the Qamishli conference, stating that its goals are a shared responsibility for Kurds across borders. “This load is ours to carry,” he said, urging local action to address regional challenges.
DEM Party MP Beritan Güneş linked the conference to a call by imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan for democratic solutions. “Amed is ready to build peace and a democratic society,” she said, referring to Öcalan’s statement of 27 February urging Kurdish unity.
DEM Party Diyarbakır branch co-chair Gülşen Özer stressed that Kurdish unity is essential. “Without unity, we cannot achieve peace,” she said, calling for Kurds to resolve internal divisions.
The solidarity expressed by the Diyarbakır workshop highlights the broader impact of the Qamishli conference, fostering hope for coordinated Kurdish efforts across Syria, Iraq and Turkey. Organisers believe the conference’s push for a decentralised, democratic Syria could inspire similar movements and strengthen regional stability.
