Turkey continues to attack North and East Syria on a daily basis, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Universities from the region have been forced to close under the bombardments, and have issued an open letter calling for international solidarity and peace.
The Turkish intelligence are alleged to target Kurdish political figures in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Kurdish political activists seeking refuge in the region. Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP) has called for the Kurdistan Regional Government to intervene.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded his visit in Ankara with talks focused on the situation in Gaza, the urgency of humanitarian aid, and broader regional stability. But the top US diplomat’s Middle East tour has spurred rumours about potential resettlement of Gazans.
