Kurdish activist Kenan Ayas, who sought asylum in Cyprus more than a decade ago, was extradited to Germany after a long legal battle and has been put behind bars to await trial.
The recent appointment of religious officials as “spiritual counsellors” in Turkey’s schools has sparked controversy and awakened concerns about its impact on students’ well-being.
Meanwhile a 16-year-old high school student in Turkey has been remanded in custody on charges of defacing a poster of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
