Kurdish forces in Syria have regained control of all areas of the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor after recent clashes with armed groups, the head of the media centre of the Syrian Democratic Forces has announced.
The Syrian foreign minister has made public comments lending credence to allegations by the Syrian Democratic Forces commander Mazloum Abdi that his government is involved in fuelling unrest in the Deir ez-Zor region.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has condemned the killing of a media worker employed by all-female Kurdish broadcaster Jin TV in a suspected Turkish drone strike in northeast Syria on 23 August, and called on the authorities to launch an immediate investigation.
And Turkish President Erdoğan has taken a long-standing public interest in the oil-rich Deir ez-Zor region with his previous statements apparently corroborating recent allegations that the paramilitary groups currently operating in Deir ez-Zor are supported by Turkey.
