๐ The funeral of Kurdish journalist Gulistan Tara, killed in a Turkish drone strike, was a powerful tribute led by women despite police attempts to restrict access. The ceremony honoured Tara’s commitment to women’s rights and Kurdish liberation, and her grave was decorated with carnations and a camera as a symbol of her journalistic work.
๐ On 29 August, one person was killed and another injured in a targeted explosion in Amรปdรช. The attack, likely caused by a Turkish drone, is part of a recent increase in drone strikes in the region, which have caused numerous civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
๐ Kurdish political prisoner Moradi had her second court hearing on 7 September postponed due to a lack of officials. Facing severe ill-treatment and charges of armed rebellion, Moradi continues to protest her mistreatment and criticise the Iranian regime in a letter from Evin prison.
๐ The 2024 Kurdish Cultural Festival will take place in Stockholm on 1 September, World Peace Day, featuring music, children’s activities and traditional Kurdish food. The festival aims to celebrate and protect Kurdish culture from assimilation efforts by showcasing music, art and literature.
