Jailed Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş resumed his defence in the high-profile Kobani trial in Turkey this week, highlighting deep-rooted issues in Kurdish-Turkish relations, and illustrating the extent of the Turkish state’s opposition to the Kurdish identity.
Amid Turkey’s soaring inflation rates, economists have raised concerns about the sustainability of the recent minimum and public sector wage hike, proposing that any increase in purchasing power will be nullified within 4 months.
The legal battle for victims of the 2015-16 Cizre (Cizîr) conflict is being taken to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) after domestic claims for recognition of human rights violations were rejected by the Constitutional Court.
