The people of Sinjar are commemorating the ninth anniversary of the harrowing genocide on 3 August 2014, in which thousands of Yazidis were systematically killed and enslaved by ISIS. Today in Sinjar, shops are closed as mourners gather at the mass grave of genocide victims.
Delegates of the Autonomous Sinjar Conference in Baghdad called on the Iraqi government to hold accountable those responsible for the Yazidi Genocide, particularly the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and annul the 2020 Sinjar Agreement.
Nadine Maenza, the President of the International Religious Freedom Secretariat spoke to Medya News following a conference in Baghdad organised for the ninth anniversary of the genocide, by 27 Yazidi NGOs to share key demands.
In an interview with Medya News, Yazidi journalist Eyßp Burç discusses the ninth commemoration of the Yazidi Genocide, bringing attention to the urgent need to hold the perpetrators to account in a tribunal, the return of Yazidi refugees to their homeland, and the establishment of an autonomous region to include Sinjar.
