Police made mass detentions in raids across several provinces in southeast Turkey early on Tuesday, just 19 days before the country’s 14 May critical elections. At least 150 were taken into police custody, according to the Diyarbakır Bar Association, while more arrests are expected in an investigation that holds a total of 216 warrants.
The latest attempt to revoke the immunity of lawmakers in Turkey targeted 34 MPs from the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), including the deputy head of the HDP’s parliamentary group.
