A vehicle carrying Syrian-Kurdish journalists was targeted in a Turkish drone strike in northern Syria, on Wednesday. The driver of the vehicle was killed, while one of the passengers, a JIN news reporter, was injured. In 2023, six Syrian Kurdish journalists have been killed in Turkish attacks.
The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) has accused Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan of attempting to manipulate diplomacy to legitimise what it considers an occupation of Iraqi territory. The Union further asserted that Turkey was aiming to pit the Kurdish movement against Iraq.
During Minister Fidan’s visit to Iraq this week, he was told by Iraqi Shia leader Hadi al Amiri that Turkey must withdraw troops and leave Iraqi soil. The main focus of the meeting was Turkey’s restriction of water flow into the country.
US Central Command General Kurilla visited northeast Syria’s Kurdish-led autonomous administration this week, observing ongoing repatriation efforts in camps housing ISIS affiliates. Camp Al Hol and Roj are home to over 50,000 people, more than 80 percent of whom are children and wives of ISIS fighters detained in nearby prisons. CENTCOM said that the General’s trip was part of a multinational effort to bolster regional security.
