The tense stand-off between Syria and Turkey continues as Damascus insists on the withdrawal of Turkish forces as a prerequisite for any normalisation of relations. Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said for the Syrian President Assad to meet with Turkish President Erdoğan would be contingent upon the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syrian soil.
Turkish police detained a group of young Kurdish men in Istanbul’s Kadıköy neighbourhood for listening to Kurdish music. Footage shows the four detained Kurds being forced by police to listen to a military march, while handcuffed behind their backs on the ground.
Jina (Mahsa) Amini’s tomb has been vandalised, revealed her brother Askan Amini. The twenty-two-year-old Kurdish woman died last September, in custody of Iran’s morality police, triggering nationwide anti-government protests.
Makhmour Refugee Camp in Iraq is currently facing a critical situation as it endures a siege imposed by the Iraqi army since 20 May. The army has sealed off all access points with heavy weaponry and armoured vehicles, isolating the camp and leaving thousands of Kurdish refugees trapped.
